Dr. Collins, one diet issue that I've been wandering about lately is how low can you go in calories. All diet gurus use 1,200 calories as the bottom, claiming dire consequences if you go below, yet you are at 1,000 and doing great. In addition, a man went on a 382 days fast, lost 276 lb. and didn't die. http://doubleyourgains.com/how-to-lose-276-lbs-in-one-year-by-not-eating-or-why-fasting-is-ok I wish I knew how low I can really go.

Jethro, that 1200 calorie floor is pretty much BS for a great many people. The 1200 calorie Myth was based on the fact that it is practically impossible to get in ALL of the servings of food recommended by the FDA (Grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy, fats, and protein) when eating less calories. Individual calorie requirements differ, depending on height, ideal weight, sex, and age. The Mifflin RMR formula is the most accurate measurement available at present, but it will still only provide an estimate. There isn't room here to really discuss this issue, and I will be writing an article on it sometime soon.
