A New Normal

- POSTED ON: Apr 25, 2011

I have been using DietPower for the past 6 1/2 years,
and I have logged in all of my food every day
during that period...ie. 2409 days.
I intend to continue using it for the rest of my life.

During my first 16 months of DietPower use,
I lost from 190 lbs down to my goal of 115.
I have been working to maintain at or near that weight
during the 5 plus years since then.

During that time I've used a great many different diets and food plans,
but always continuing logging all my food into DietPower every day
no matter what that food plan was.
Even all my VERY HIGH-CALORIE were always logged.
I consider myself a 100% success with DietPower.

This is a Habit that proves very useful at times like now,
when my normal routine has been disturbed by an injury.
I don’t feel very well, and I have had a few higher calorie days,
but tracking my food gives me a feeling of stability, and the hope
that soon things will adjust, and I will be able to establish
a new normal, during my recovery period.

We have discussed my injuries before and you have been a real encouragement. January 2010 I slipped on the ice and broke my wrist....had to have a cast up to my shoulder first to stabilize the long bones...terrible pain....not much sleep...was my dominant hand and I was still teaching...one handed typing, etc. I had a terrible time and gained weight. I was not using DietPower at the time. Lots of therapy on my wrist and hand and also had frozen shoulder because of the cast!...Fast forward....I began using Diet Power last October. December 1, 2010 I had a ladder accident and broke my heel. This time I was well established with DietPower and it kept me going even though I couldn't weigh properly...couldn't even stand on the scale. I just kept logging in my food and I kept losing. Thanks for sending me to DietPower and I know you will make it through because your behavior isn't going to change. I am wishing you well.

Thanks, TexArk. Thinking of you and how you have succeeded despite your injuries has encouraged me. It does hurt, and is very inconvenient even though it is (thankfully) my left arm and wrist. I have been in a splint since Friday's accident. It runs from my fingertips to a bit below my armpit, and in a couple of hours I have an appointment for my cast which will probably weigh a lot more. I do find balance to be a tricky issue already, so intend to take the lesson you learned about ladders to heart. None of us are ever guaranteed a "free space" in life -- a coocoon in which to survive while losing or maintaining weight. How we handle food is simply part of the total of our lives, and without tracking it, and remaining accountable ... throughout all circumstances ... I would be doomed to failure. With consistent tracking, I have a chance for success.

TexArk nice seeing you post. I remember your success while suffering with your foot. I started logging my food in the lobby of the Hampton Inn breakfast buffet area with the kids visiting NASA. Never had counted calories before then.

Karen, I've also found establishing this type of long-term online relationship to be so encouraging and helpful.
